Looking Through
A Glass Onion

for everyone
Instead of reviewing No Doubt's kickass concert on Friday, I shall do this instead. Bear with me.

While online surfing last night, I chanced upon this video at My Modern Metropolis.  This ad recently won the TV/Cinema Grand Prix at the Spikes Asia creative advertising competition held on Sept. 19 2009 in Singapore's Victoria Concert Hall.
Agency: Ogilvy & Mather, Bangkok
Client: Thai Life Insurance
Director: Thanonchai Sornsrivichai
Production Company: Phenomena

I blame the soundtrack.
If they show such ads with such intense themes, accompanied by such music ALL THE TIME, we'd all weep...harder during Singapore Idol commercial breaks.
Nevertheless, I kinda wish this was a full length feature film instead.

Nope...Thai Life Insurance, you simply can't emotionally blackmail me into blindly purchasing life insurance. Rather, it'd have made more sense to be more subtle by sponsoring the amazing crew behind this storyline and perhaps produce an indie flick.

After googling, I discovered that the song in question that I owe my current state to is Kazamidori (風見鶏) by Depapepe, a Japanese acoustic guitar duo. The Japanese never fail to surprise.
When words fail, there's always instrumental.
Anyway, you can listen to the track here:
KAZAMIDORI - DEPAPEPE

Then before I turned in for the night, (a grave mistake on hindsight this morning), I allowed my fingers to do the clicking and watched more of those Thai Life insurance ads - ALL with similar themes. Here are a few I prefer:

The special effects of this one is mind-blowing for a tv ad!

I think the best "life insurance" is one all the moolah in the universe can't buy.
You know..the kind of "insurance" without hoaxes, gimmicks, freebies and fineprint.  The kind that automatically comes with your choice of living a meaningful life. The kind that lives on in others when you die. That kind.
Rather than just quantifying one's blessings, instead why not also take each and every blessing, lesson learnt and memory with you wherever you go and sharing it with people you meet?

Hmmm...I need a better word than "bittersweet".
